Honest Beds is the latest offering from Nest Bedding, a company I really admire for quality, innovation and value. Instead of introducing yet another bed in a box, Nest took this business model to a whole new level with the Honest Beds line. These mattresses are hand tufted with Joma wool, and flippable for 2 different levels for firmness which means you really get 2 mattresses for the price of 1.
Ordering
One thing you’ll notice about ordering from the Nest Bedding site is that they are a true mattress company. They offer different lines of mattresses instead of a one size fits all solution. I think this is a sign of their expertise in the mattress industry. They also offer financing so that you can make smaller monthly payments instead of paying full price up front.
With Honest Beds you can choose between 2 different types, Latex or Memory Foam. Both include pocket coils (Leggett and Platt Combi-Zoned Pocketed Coil Technology) and are flippable meaning you can sleep on either side. Right side up is a medium firmness and the other way is Firm. This drastically reduces the risk that you will get the wrong level of firmness.
They offer financing direct from their site which is similar to what a traditional mattress store would offer and in my opinion was really the last remaining advantage to shopping in a store.
once you place your order you can expect your mattress delivered to your door in about 10 days.
Unboxing
The first thing that struck me about this mattress while bringing it in the house was how heavy it was. The Queen size is over 90lbs. which is typical of a King size memory foam mattress. Rather than showing myself struggling to lift this out of the box I edited that out.
Construction
What sets Honest Beds apart from the other mattresses I have reviewed is that there is a hand made aspect to them. As you can see in the video below the beds are hand tufted which is really need. This is more than just an aesthetic touch. The tufting helps with heat dissipation and makes the mattress contour to your body. The mattress has stitched handles on all 4 sides which makes it easier to flip.
Here are the tech specs of the mattress. It is a true hybrid in that it includes either foam or latex AND pocketed coils.
- A natural wool in the fire barrier, no chemical fire barrier
- Choose either 100% Natural Latex or Certified Memory Foam versions
- 2 Beds in 1: Medium and Firm Feels in Each Honest Bed
- Pocketed Coil with Edge Support

Here’s a clip of how Honest Beds are Made.
Below is a picture of the tufting. Notice that Honest Beds come with an organic cover.
The Honest Bed comes in at 13 inches deep. It can also be placed on an adjustable frame which are becoming more popular.
Motion Transfer
For a hybrid mattress, the Honest Bed does a good job with motion transfer. It’s not as good as a pure foam mattress. However the advantage is that you get good bounce from it which is good for other activities. It is also just fun to jump into this bed. My kids enjoyed jumping on it for a bit too.
Findings
I hear from readers all the time about how they needed to return a mattress because they read it would be a perfect combination of softness and support but later found out that it was neither. Honest Beds may not be for everyone in terms of price or feel but there’s no denying that the quality is amazing and this will prove to be a very durable mattress. Because it is flippabable, you get to choose between 2 levels of firmness. If found the medium firm to be perfect for side sleepers. I’m a side/stomach sleeper and preferred the medium firmness but if you always sleep on your stomach you may want to flip it to the firm.
If you are in the market for a high end mattress like a Kluft or Simmons BeautyRest Black, get one of these to try out and then compare it to the others in the store. Chances are you will find that they are very comparable. Except that the Honest Bed is thousands less. You get a 100 day trial so there’s nothing to lose.
BeautyRest Black (Over $4,000)
Kluft Mattresss (Over $10,000)
If you are looking to upgrade your innerspring mattress, this is it. It is made of top quality material which means it will stand the test of time. Expect to be sleeping on this mattress for at least a decade.
For reference, the WinkBed is similar to the firm side of the memory foam Honest Bed.
The Saatva is similar to the medium firm side of the Honest Bed but has a bit more bounce to it. Neither the Saatva or WinkBed are flippable.

Hey, do you know if the Honest Bed comes with a Dunlop or Talalay latex? Thanks, Nicole
Editor
It’s dunlop latex.

Thanks for the thorough review of this mattress!
I am considering the Nest Alexander Hybrid, the Honest Gel, or the Wink bed, and I noticed your review above mentions the Wink is actually more comparable to the firm side of the Honest Bed. That is very helpful information because that alone might put the Wink out of the running for me since I thought the medium firm side of the Honest best was about the max firmness I would be comfortable on after testing it in the store.
